How to make Automatic Hand Sanitizer or Hand Wash to Stop Cornovirus Spreading

Description:

Automatic Hand Sanitizer for Coronavirus– It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 Coronavirus by touching a person, a surface or an object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes. The only way to break this chain is to stop physical contact and clean your hands using a contactless automatic Hand Sanitizer or an automatic hand wash system. In this project no microcontroller is used to reduce the price and so that everyone can build this at home. This project is built around a few electronic components.

In this tutorial, you will learn how to make a low-cost automatic hand sanitizer system using IR Sensor, A relay module, and a 12V DC Water Pump. Recently I developed another project “Social Distancing Project using Arduino, Ultrasonic Sensor, and LEDs“. You can also protect yourself from getting affected by keeping a safe distance.

Without any further delay let’s get started!!!

About the Coronavirus COVID-19:

What is coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)? Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a respiratory illness that can spread from person to person. The virus that causes COVID-19 is a novel coronavirus that was first identified during an investigation into an outbreak in Wuhan, China.

What are severe complications from this virus?

Some patients have pneumonia in both lungs, multi-organ failure and in some cases death.

How can I help protect myself?

People can help protect themselves from respiratory illness with everyday preventive actions.

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.

If you are sick, to keep from spreading respiratory illness to others, you should

  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

Is there a vaccine?

There is currently no vaccine to protect against COVID-19. The best way to prevent infection is to take everyday preventive actions, like avoiding close contact with people who are sick and washing your hands often.

I am not a doctor, I can’t make a Vaccine, but I can make something that can break the chain, we can stop coronavirus from spreading by making an automatic Hand Sanitizer System.

About the IR Sensor:

Automatic Hand Sanitizer

This is the IR Sensor. To power up this IR Sensor Module you need 3.3 to 5.5 Volts DC. I will use a regulated 5V power supply to power up this IR Sensor.

Automatic Hand Sanitizer

As you can see this IR Sensor has a total of 4 male headers which are clearly labeled as EN which we will not use, the second pin is the VCC, the third one is the OUT pin which will be used to control the relay, while the last pin is the GND.

About the 12V DC Water Pump:

Automatic Hand Sanitizer

This is the 12 volts DC Micro Water Pump. It has two wires the Red wire is the 12V wire while the Black wire is the ground wire.

About the 12V relay Module:

Automatic Hand Sanitizer

This is the 12v SPDT type relay module which will be used to control the 12V DC water pump. You can make the one by yourself, by following the connections given in the circuit diagram given below. Now let’s have a look at the complete circuit diagram.

Automatic Hand Sanitizer Circuit Diagram:

Automatic Hand Sanitizer

Let’s start with the 5 volts regulated power supply based on the famous LM7805 voltage regulator. J2 is the DC female Power jack and this is where we connect the input power supply. Two 10uf electrolyte capacitors are connected at the input and output sides of the voltage regulator. A 330-ohm resistor is connected in series with a 2.5 volts LED. This is a current limiting resistor.

A wire from the output of the voltage regulator is connected with the VCC pin of the IR Sensor and a wire from the ground of the 5v regulator power supply is connected with the ground of the IR sensor. The output pin of the IR sensor is connected with the base of the 2n2222 NPN transistor through a 10k ohm resistor. The emitter of the transistor is connected with the ground, while the collector is connected with the coil pin of the relay, while the other pin of the relay coil is connected with the 12 volts. 1N4007 diode is connected across the coil pins of the relay. This diode is used for the back EMF protection.

The common pin of the relay is connected with the 12 volts while the normally open pin is connected with the 12 Volts wire of the water pump. While the ground of the water pump is connected with the ground. All the grounds are connected together. So, that’s all about the circuit diagram, now let’s start making the Automatic Hand Sanitizer system. I will follow the same exact connections as explained in the circuit diagram.

Finally, I connected all the components as per the circuit diagram and powered up the Automatic Hand Sanitizer system; I was able to control the 12V DC water pump using the IR Sensor. At this point was pretty confident and started the final installation.
