I have been using this digital multimeter for quite a long time and I am not going to say anything bad about this multimeter but the Kaiweets KM601 Smart Digital Multimeter is just at another level as it has got maximum of the functions which I usually need while performing the tests. I will talk about each and every function in very detail but first let’s start the Unboxing and see what we have got inside this box. Without any further delay let’s get started!!!

Kaiweets Smart Digital Multimeter Unboxing:

Kaiweets smart digital multimeter

Inside this box we have the Kaiweets KM601 Smart Digital Multimeter True RMS 10000 Counts. A user Manual which explains pretty much everything, you just read this for 5 minutes and then you feel like you know everything about this smart digital multimeter. Two sets of AAA 1.5 volts batteries. Two test leads and the K-type thermocouple for measuring the temperature.

We have these 5 buttons on the top. The Red button is the main button which is most frequently used. This button is used to select the auto function and other manual functions.

The power button and NCV on the front. NCV stands for Non-contact voltage detection this is my favorite one.

Kaiweets smart digital multimeter

There is one button on the right side which is the APO button. APO stands for Automatic Power Off.

There is one button on the left side which has this torch sign on it which is used to turn ON and turn OFF an LED which is on the backside.

Finally, on the bottom side we have these 4 jacks for connecting the test leads which are also provided with these indication lights. The first input terminal is for measuring ac and dc current upto 10A. The 2nd input terminal is for measuring ac and dc current upto 600mA. The 3rd input jack is the common or return terminal for all measurements. The last input terminal is for measuring all other functions, like voltage, continuity, resistance, capacitance, frequency, temperature, and testing diodes. So, that’s all about the things on the outside. Now, it’s time to power up this beautiful piece of hardware and practically see all its features and functions in action. So, let’s install the batteries.

Kaiweets smart digital multimeter

Unlike other digital multimeters, you don’t need to open all the screws, there is only one screw on the back, simply unscrew the screw and install the three AAA 1.5V batteries. The batteries + and – signs are given. Once the batteries are installed the Kaiweets smart digital multimeter will automatically turn ON, if not then press and hold the “power” button for about 2 seconds to turn on/off the meter.

By default the Auto mode is selected and which you can also see on the screen. The pointer will swing by itself indicating the Smart mode. You will also see the ambient temperature in Celsius. The automatic power off is ON by default “you can see that power sign”, so when this function is ON and there is no activity for about 15 minutes, the meter will automatically turn off. 1 minute before turn off, there will be 5 beeps. So, you can turn ON and turn OFF this automatic power off function using the APO button which is available on the right side.

You can turn ON and turn OFF the LED using this torch button. They did a great job by adding this LED as we always need light for checking the components parts numbers and in so many other situations when we are testing something. To turn ON the LED you don’t need to hold the button, just with a single click you can turn it ON or turn it OFF.

Next, we are going to check the NCV “Non-contact voltage detection” function. To use this function you will have to manually select the NCV Live. To manually select this NCV function you can use the AUTO/FUNC Red color button.

You can use this for testing the live and neutral wires, pretty amazing works from such a long distance.

Kaiweets smart digital multimeter

This NCV function will save a lot of your time when you have to find a broken spot on a long wire. When it detects the live wires the green and red lights starts flashing. I tested with other live wires and this NCV function was working just great. Watch video for the practical demonstration, which is given at the end of this article.

Now, let’s go ahead and check all the other functions, and for this first, I am going to connect my test leads. While the auto mode is selected, let’s first test the continuity.

Kaiweets smart digital multimeter

You can check this by simply touching the two test leads and you should hear a beep sound. This smart digital multimeter automatically selected the continuity beep sound sign on the display.

Next, I am going to check 10k-ohm and 1k-ohm resistors, let’s see if this smart digital multimeter can automatically select the ohms.

Kaiweets smart digital multimeter

First I started with the 10k ohm resistor, while the auto mode was selected, when I connected the two test leads with the two leads of the resistor, the needle on the display automatically jumped to the Ohm’s sign and the value 9.97 which is approximately equal to 10k ohms. The same I did for the 1k ohm resistor and the value was pretty cool.

While the smart mode is still selected I am going to check the AC and DC voltages, and let’s see if it can differentiate between the AC and DC voltage. So, first let’s start with the AC voltage.

Kaiweets smart digital multimeter

On the display you can see it automatically selected the voltage and since we are measuring the AC voltage, you can clearly see the AC sign is selected. You can also see the frequency in Hertz and the voltage itself which is around 223 volts.

Kaiweets smart digital multimeter

This time we are measuring the DC voltage, you can see on the meter voltage is selected and since we are measuring the DC voltage, so you can see this DC voltage sign and the voltage itself which is around 11 volts this is a 3S lipo battery pack.

Next, I am going to check these two capacitors. The one is 470uf and the other one is 10uf. For this I am going to manually select the capacitor. As you can see on the display, the blue color needle is just in front of the capacitor sign. The value is a bit off, but still it’s pretty close. I also checked the other capacitor.

Next, I am going to check this diode. For this I am going to manually select the diode.

Kaiweets smart digital multimeter

The black color test lead is connected with the cathode of the diode while the Red color test lead of the digital multimeter is connected with the Anode of the diode. On the display you can see the diode forward voltage drop.

So far, I have covered maximum of the functions and now its time to check the K-type thermocouple. For the temperature test I am going to manually select the temperature. Next, I am going to remove the test leads and I will connect the K-type thermocouple.

Kaiweets smart digital multimeter

You can see the temperature in Celsius. You can see the temperature sensor is quite responsive.

For the current measurement, manually select the desired range which 10A and 600mA. If you are measuring the current and you know it’s equal to or below 600mA then connect the test lead in the 600mA jack and the black test lead in the common jack. Finally, you can connect the test leads in the series and this way you can measure the current.

Kaiweets smart digital multimeter

If you want to measure the current which is equal to or less than 10A then connect the test lead with the 10A jack and this will automatically select the 10A. This is quite smart; it knows when you connect the test leads, anyways now you can connect the test leads in the series and start measuring the current.

So, that’s all for now, let me know in a comment if you have liked this Kaiweets Smart Digital Multimeter.

  1. Great meter but poor leads. Mine was a gift, but I had to pay about £13 to get their full set. Clamping leads are absolutely essential. Pretty poor of them not to provide these with an otherwise excellent product.
