Quebec Perspective Scholarship Program (PBPQ)

IMPORTANT NOTE: The Government of Québec is the authorized origin for this scholarship program. In case of divergence between the substance below and government-published information, the latter overcomes.

The Government of Québec program, “Programme de bourses Perspective Québec” (PBPQ) advocates for students to engage in postsecondary study in fields viewed as precedence to the province’s workforce planning. The per-term amounts will be granted to students after each effective conclusion of a full-time term of study, commencing in Fall 2022. The Fall 2022 term will be reimbursed in the following term (i.e. Winter 2023). The PBPQ funding will not be bestowed retroactively for terms finished before Fall 2022. With exclusions as highlighted above, students may be in any year of their degree program to apply for the scholarship (eg. about to graduate, at the midpoint of the degree, or newly admitted), as long as all other entitlement conditions are met.

Student eligibility criteria

Students must fulfill the following entitlement criteria for the term for which they are applying for the award of PBPQ funding (evaluated by the Government of Quebec at the time the application is surveyed for that semester):

Registered at McGill as a Quebec Resident according to the Regulation regarding the definition of a resident of Quebec. Please also have a look at McGill’s Legal Documents page. 

Note: To determine whether you are presently registered as a Quebec Resident at McGill, please see the Access to fee information section. Only Canadian citizens (involving Canadian First Nations) and Permanent Residents are entitled to Quebec residency. All other groupings of students (Visitor’s Visa, Diplomat, Refugee, International, etc.) are unentitled, according to the Ministry of Education’s directives.

Studying on a full-time basis for the semester in consideration (or thought full-time with at least 6 credits for students with a documented disability or impairment, certain family circumstances such as a young reliant child, etc. to be defined by the Government of Québec).

Has completed the specified minimum number of credits in a qualified program.

Note: According to the government website: “You are deemed to have completed your study term if you have got the minimum number of hours or credits obligatory by the scholarship program. Accordingly, you will be permitted to the scholarship providing you attain this minimum number, even if you botched one of your courses.”

Undergraduate students must be in not in Freshman year / U0 or they must be in U1 or above to be qualified to obtain the scholarship. They may apply for/obtain it in the residual three or four years of their degree, based on the other entitlement prerequisites pronounced above.

Master’s students must not be enrolled as Qualifying students and they should be registered in a degree program.

Ph.D. students must not be in Year 1 and they should be in Year 2 and above.

Biomedical mechanical engineering

The objective of the Biomedical Mechanical Engineering program is to make graduate engineers connoisseurs in the areas of biomedical science associated with mechanical engineering. These engineers specialize in fields that comprise the following: prostheses, implant design of artificial hearts, and other medical devices, evolution, and selection of bio-compatible nonmetallic and metallic materials for biomechanics and rehabilitation engineering, and implants and robotics for medical applications. This program is identical in structure to the mechanical engineering program but it contains courses in the biomedical field that supersede a quarter of the traditional program.

This program’s comprehensive scope gives its graduates a broad range of career options, not only in the biomedical domain but also in traditional mechanical engineering. Biomedical systems are among the most complicated mechanical systems; therefore, a strong and extensive education in standard mechanical engineering precepts is delivered, with intensity on their application to biomedical systems.

General entitlement criteria for a bursary or an admission scholarship

Fulfill the admission prerequisites of the program in question;

The student should be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate program for the first time in the university;

The student must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and have a refugee status (unless otherwise indicated) or a protected person. Necessary averages to maintain or renew a scholarship are tended to be rounded to two decimal places. For example, a student with an average of 8.49 would not be qualified for a scholarship that mandates an 8.50 average. Have a look at academic regulation 10.2 for more input on computing averages.

Admission average of:

95-100% = $5,000

90-94.9% = $4,000


The Faculty of Engineering tends to reward 35 of these scholarships to students having an admission average between 95 and 100% ($5,000) or between 90 and 94.9% ($4,000). Applicants must be registered or enrolled full-time, and for the first time, in an undergraduate program at the Faculty of Engineering.

No application is needed for this scholarship; all qualified students comprising international students are automatically evaluated for this award.

Faculty of Engineering Memorial Scholarship




The Faculty of Engineering tends to reward this scholarship to seven female students—one from each of the engineering programs (keeping out computer science). This $2,000 award is awarded to applicants with a minimum admission average of 80% and who best meet the eligibility benchmarks. To apply, students must present a letter describing why they are applying to an engineering program and also furnish an up-to-date résumé projecting their most recent academic and extracurricular achievements. Applications must have to be submitted online.

All female students enrolled in the Faculty of Engineering, comprising international students, are qualified for this scholarship.
