Materials Engineering
Overview
Materials engineers develop technology and design processes to generate new materials, like artificial bone engrafts or implants for medical patients and super-strong titanium alloys for spacecraft. Quebec Perspective Scholarship Program (PBPQ)
IMPORTANT NOTE: The Government of Québec is the authorized origin for this scholarship program. In case of divergence between the substance below and government-published information, the latter overcomes.
The Government of Québec program, “Programme de bourses Perspective Québec” (PBPQ) advocates for students to engage in postsecondary study in fields viewed as precedence to the province’s workforce planning. Starting in the Fall 2022 term, Québec students admitted to qualified academic programs may apply for financial backing irrespective of whether they are commencing, mid-way through, or finishing their program.

The per-term amounts will be granted to students after each effective conclusion of a full-time term of study, commencing in Fall 2022. The Fall 2022 term will be reimbursed in the following term (i.e. Winter 2023). The PBPQ funding will not be bestowed retroactively for terms finished before Fall 2022. With exclusions as highlighted above, students may be in any year of their degree program to apply for the scholarship (eg. about to graduate, at the midpoint of the degree, or newly admitted), as long as all other entitlement conditions are met.
Student eligibility criteria
Students must fulfill the following entitlement criteria for the term for which they are applying for the award of PBPQ funding (evaluated by the Government of Quebec at the time the application is surveyed for that semester):
Registered at McGill as a Quebec Resident according to the Regulation regarding the definition of a resident of Quebec. Please also have a look at McGill’s Legal Documents page.
Note: To determine whether you are presently registered as a Quebec Resident at McGill, please see the Access to fee information section. Only Canadian citizens (involving Canadian First Nations) and Permanent Residents are entitled to Quebec residency. All other groupings of students (Visitor’s Visa, Diplomat, Refugee, International, etc.) are unentitled, according to the Ministry of Education’s directives.

Note: According to the government website: “You are deemed to have completed your study term if you have got the minimum number of hours or credits obligatory by the scholarship program. Undergraduate students must be in not in Freshman year / U0 or they must be in U1 or above to be qualified to obtain the scholarship. They may apply for/obtain it in the residual three or four years of their degree, based on the other entitlement prerequisites pronounced above.
Master’s students must not be enrolled as Qualifying students and they should be registered in a degree program.
Ph.D. students must not be in Year 1 and they should be in Year 2 and above.

Application fee
The $125 or $75 (for current or former students) non-refundable application fee for fresh students must be reimbursed at the time of application. Acknowledged payment methods are MasterCard, Visa Debit, Visa, AmEx, and Discover.

Established on March 7, 1878, by Bishop Isaac Hellmuth (1817–1901) ‘In 1881, the Western University of London Ontario’ unlocked its doors to students for the first time. Four faculties – Arts, Divinity, Law, and Medicine were there at Western’s beginning.
In 1916, the existing campus was bought from the Kingsmill family, and in 1923 the university has rebranded The University of Western Ontario.
Since that first class graduated in 1883, the university has become a vivacious hub of learning. Through 12 faculties and three associated university colleges, Western today extends its 36,000-plus students to more than 400 minors, majors, and specializations.
It was at Western where Sir Frederick Banting emerged from an unquiet and restless sleep and wrote out 25 words that directed to his finding of insulin.

General entitlement criteria for a bursary or an admission scholarship
